Good Day Atlanta viewer information story April 24, 2017

Good Day Atlanta attends "Lineman Boot Camp" in Lithonia:   When severe weather strikes, they are among the first to respond.  And even though they focus on keeping the lights on for the rest of us -- this month, line crews for Georgia Power and other power companies are getting some time in the spotlight themselves.

April is National Lineman Appreciation Month, honoring the work done by the men and women trained to keep electricity flowing around the clock.  As part of the campaign, Georgia Power's 2017 Thank a Lineman initiative allows customers to sign a digital "thank you" card (located here), giving people a chance to acknowledge the men and women who respond to power outages across the state.  Here in Georgia, many line workers begin their career at a massive Georgia Power training center in Lithonia, where they learn to operate bucket tricks, climb power poles, and work with transformers using a tool called a "hot stick."

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken got a chance to check out the Lithonia training center, and even received a little training himself.
