Annual Canton arts & crafts festival gets new home:   It’s been an annual tradition for more than three decades, and now the Riverfest Arts and Crafts Festival is moving to a brand-new location.

This year’s Riverfest will take place in Etowah River Park, located on Brown Industrial Parkway in Canton.  The arts and crafts festival is a fundraiser for the Service League of Cherokee County, which is the oldest volunteers service organization in the county with a mission to provide necessities to children in need.  Riverfest will take place Saturday, September 23rd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday the 24th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and features more than 200 vendors selling their handmade arts and crafts, and the event is also a juried show for those artists, awarding prizes for Fine Arts, Crafts, and Gourmet Products.  Last year, Riverfest drew a crowd of more than 25,000 people and raised more than $100,000 for the Service League of Cherokee County.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at Etowah River Park, and got a preview of this year’s big event!

Burgers With Buck The Varsity: It was inevitable.

You may be thinking, why in the world did it take #BurgersWIthBuck so long to finally make it The Varsity.  It is a legitimate question.

Let’s face it, the #BWB staff knew we would eventually feature the iconic Atlanta institution, and even we are a bit surprised that it took 102 segments, but the timing is actually perfect.  When Sharon Lawson joined the Good Day Atlanta team, I felt obligated to not only introduce her to the city of Atlanta, but also to Burgers With Buck.

What better place to do both than The Varsity?

I grew up on Varsity chili, cheese, and slaw dogs, and chili, cheese burgers, but Sharon was not familiar.  Let’s just say, after her very first chili and pimento cheese streak…now she is.  You never forget your first.

One of the other great things about The Varsity is the classic “What’ll ya have?” greeting and don’t forget the unique lingo when it comes to placing your order.  From naked dogs walking with Strings, or maybe a Bag of Rags, and a PC or an FO, there’s no place quite like The V.  If you need to learn the lingo, or perhaps just need a refresher course, check out this link https://www.thevarsity.com/food/lingo.

On this day we featured the Glorified Burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and bacon (no mayo, of course), and a pimento cheese and chili burger.  On a side note, the Varsity was the first place, at least that I am familiar with that, to serve Pimento Cheese on a burger.  I remember my mom ordering when I was a kid and I thought it sounded gross.  It’s not.  In fact, It is now a very popular trend, but they pimento cheese before it was cool.

The food and the atmosphere combine to make The Varsity a popular spot for long time Atlantans, and must do for tourists or people new to the city.  Welcome Sharon!

And, as always, if you have a favorite burger that you would like to see featured on, tell me about it on https://www.facebook.com/BuckFOX5 or https://twitter.com/BuckFOX5, and don't forget to use the hash tag #BurgersWithBuck and/or #BWB.
