Atlanta becomes Art-lanta during free Public Art Festival:  Look closely during the next two weeks, and you’ll see Atlanta becoming a much more colorful and interesting place.  Artists are taking over downtown, tackling social issues through unique creations.

This year’s ELEVATE Public Art Festival is taking place from October 13 through October 21, with a series of free events open to the public.  More than 200 artists are taking part in the annual event, creating art and events aimed at inspiring discussions related to current social issues.  This year’s festival includes painter Yoyo Ferro and members of the community creating a mural on the side of the Atlanta Eye Care building, rhyming wordplay on the downtown streets led by hip-hop lyricists Soul Food Cypher, and French dancer Noé Soulier performing his latest work.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning in downtown Atlanta, getting a preview of this exciting and diverse festival.

Top Trees & Shrubs for Fall Color: There is no better time to plant almost anything than in the fall. That may seem counterintuitive since the cold winter is right around the corner. But, plants that are planted in the fall have an optimum amount of time to develop a new healthy root system before the hot days of the following summer.  Melodie McDanal, horticulturist, at Pike Nurseries explains to Good Day Atlanta's Joanne Feldman why fall is the best season for planting and showcasing some trees and shrubs.  For more on Pike Nurseries click here.
