ATLANTA - Community Emergency Response Team - Cobb County offers the opportunity for anyone learn emergency response and save lives during disasters. The curriculum is provided by FEMA and covers 21 hours over three weekends. This is unique because it is presented in American Sign Language with live interpreters this is only the third time it was done in the United States. “Hidden Gems” Week: Good Day Explores Georgia’s State Parks: It’s the 85th anniversary of the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites system – and to celebrate, Good Day Atlanta is going on a week-long tour of some of our area’s most beautiful and unique attractions.
Right now, Georgia State Parks is encouraging visitors to go on a “treasure hunt” – searching for the Hidden Gems of Georgia. There’s a complete list of the “hidden gems” on the Georgia State Parks website, and it includes the Prohibition-era moonshine truck at Amicalola Falls State Park (in Dawsonville), the little-known cemeteries at Panola Mountain State Park (in Stockbridge), and the hidden homesteads at Red Top Mountain State Park (in Acworth). Many of these “gems” are unknown to even frequent State Park visitors, and some exist on little-traveled trails that are easy to overlook.
