Good Day Atlanta viewer information February 24, 2017

Atlanta Hawks Pre NBA History of African Americans in Basketball:  This week the Atlanta Hawks commemorate the contributions of trailblazers who created their own Black basketball league and paved the way for NBA's integration.

It was a time known as the "Black Fives Era".  Claude Johnson, President and Director the Black 5's Foundation joined us on set with more on the history and to talk about his Hoops Exhibition.

Historic Motofest Takes Over Georgia Dome:   Time is running out for the Georgia Dome, but before Atlanta's new stadium opens up, the old one will make history one more time.

For the first time ever, Monster Energy Supercross and AMSOIL Arenacross will compete in the same venue during the same weekend.  Called Motofest, the four-day event will take place February 24-27 at the Georgia Dome, bringing the biggest stars in stadium motorcycle racing to Atlanta.  AMSOIL Arenacross makes its Atlanta debut on Friday the 24th, with a pre-race party starting at 5:30 p.m. and the main event beginning at 8:00 p.m.  Then, Monster Energy Supercross takes over on Saturday the 25th, with Fan Fest taking place from noon to 6:00 p.m. and racing starting at 6:30 p.m.  Amateur competitors take over on Sunday, with AMSOIL Arenacross Amateur Day allowing amateurs to compete on the same track as the pros.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken couldn't resist the chance to jump on a bike and join in the action -- so he spent the morning at the Georgia Dome, helping to kick off this historic occasion.

Burgers With Buck Local Republic:  There is no rhyme or reason as to why it took #BurgersWithBuck a full 74 episodes to finally make it to Gwinnett County.  However, the Mr. Jones Burger at Local Republic on the historic Lawrenceville Square, was worth the wait.

First of all, if you are local, but haven't been to Local Republic in a while, you may not recognize the place as their new location is much bigger than you remember.  But what you will recognize is the great variety of delicious burgers which have earned a lot of notoriety both inside and outside the Gwinnett County line.

#BWB tried the Mr. Jones Burger which is named after a regular customer (to hear the full story, click on the link).  It includes an eight ounce pattie on a whole wheat bun with a heaping helping of house made Pimento Cheese, a couple of slices of very thick cut bacon, and sliced jalapeno.

I've been told I should have tried either The Sink Burger, which includes a sunny side up egg and whatever else the kitchen wants to throw on it, or the Patrick Swayze Burger, complete with provolone and ghost pepper salsa that "Nobody puts in the corner".  These are just a few of the seven different burgers on the menu, including a black bean variety if you are so inclined.  Just several more reasons for #BurgersWithBuck to pay another visit to Lawrenceville.
