Blue Ridge festival hooks in local fishing fans: Start tying your flies now – this weekend, the “Trout Fishing Capital of Georgia” will host an event likely to reel in a big crowd of both seasoned fishermen and beginners.
The Blue Ridge Trout Festival & Outdoor Adventures event will take over Blue Ridge’s Downtown City Park on Saturday, April 28th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Considering the event was designated as the “Official Trout Festival of Georgia” in 2016 by Georgia lawmakers, it should be pretty obvious that the festival celebrates all things fishing, specifically trout fishing in the Toccoa River watershed! The festival will fill the park with dozens of vendors covering everything from outdoor gear, fishing supplies, and arts and crafts, and there will also be interactive events including seminars from the Atlanta Fly Fishing school. Oh, and since we all know fishing works up an appetite, the event also features a Food Truck Alley and Beer Garden.
But beyond all the fun, there is a cause swimming beneath the festival’s surface. The Blue Ridge Trout Festival & Outdoor Adventures event is sponsored by Blue Ridge Mountain Trout Unlimited (local chapter 696), an organization dedicated to conservation and restoring trout populations to cold-water fisheries.
Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken is always looking for an opportunity to head up to beautiful Blue Ridge, and he spent the morning gearing up for a little fly-fishing in the Toccoa!
Atlanta Burger Week is taking place and several restaurants are participating offering a $5 burger on their menus.
