Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker Creator Looks Back On Celebrated Production

Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker

If you've seen "Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker" any time in the last 20 years, you've seen the work of artistic director John McFall.  But this will be a bittersweet year for the holiday favorite, as it's McFall's final one with the company.

This year is the 20th anniversary of McFall's first production of "Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker" at the Fox Theatre.  The company had been performing the classic George Balanchine production of "The Nutcracker" for decades before McFall joined as artistic director and created the new production for Atlanta's -- it's since become a Christmas tradition for many North Georgia families, not to mention an inspiration to young ballet dancers every year.  McFall is retiring as artistic director in June, after a celebrated run with Atlanta Ballet including productions of "Swan Like" and "Firebird."

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken stopped by the Fox Theatre to chat with Mr. McFall and look back on his long, storied history with "Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker."
