They called it "The Sound of Young America" -- but since the 1960s, the music of Motown has become the sound of every American. And now, that music comes to the Fox Theatre stage in the form of a rollicking musical.
"Motown the Musical" opened on Broadway in 2013, becoming an immediate hit with audiences. The musical tells the story of Berry Gordy, Jr. and the founding of Motown Records. Along the way, audiences will see the birth of stars including Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and the Jackson 5. Though the music was created in Detroit, there is a local connection to the tour of this musical -- actor Galen Williams (a Swing in the show) grew up in East Point and attended Tri-Cities High School.
Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken is an unabashed Motown fan, and couldn't wait to get backstage to check out how the cast and crew make Motown magic happen! He also got to hang out with Allison Semmes, the actress who brings Diana Ross to life every night on the stage.
