Friday night to be a 'gas' thanks to nostalgia drags

It’s a tradition for thousands of fans every Friday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway – sit back, relax, and watch hundreds of drag racers duke it out on the Speedway’s eighth-of-a-mile pit road.  But this week, while the cars are speeding forward, fans will be heading back to time thanks to a group of loud-car lovers known as the Southeast Gassers Association.

It's “Nostalgia Night” at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags this Friday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  The weekly drag racing series is open to any driver with a license and any car, and an average of 225 show up each week for the chance to burn some rubber down pit road and walk away from a piece of the glory.

Gates open at 6 p.m. for competitors and 6:30 p.m. for spectators and admission is just $10 to come to watch the races.  Along with racing, fans can also check out the weekly Show-N-Shine car shows, which end with awards for the top three finishers in each car class.  Car owners are also welcome to enter the weekly car shows for a $20 entry fee.

Enthusiasts from the Southeast Gassers Association will take over the spotlight this Friday night, showcasing their retro-themed vehicles and bringing the Friday Night Drags back to the excitement of the 1960s.  Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway getting a lesson in drag racing and doing his best to be heard over the roar of the gassers!
