Dance legend's legacy lives on at Marietta studio

- He remains the epitome of elegance and class, and nobody danced across the Silver Screen quite like Fred Astaire.  Now, the legend’s legacy is extending all the way to Marietta, thanks to a new dance studio bearing his name.

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Marietta officially opens Wednesday, March 1, joining a long list of other Fred Astaire Dance Studio locations around the world.  The film star, known for dancing in classics including Top Hat and Swing Time, co-founded the studio chain in 1947, opening the first location in New York and helping to establish its curriculum.  The Marietta studio is owned by Mechelle Flowers, and will celebrate its grand opening beginning at 3 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting and dance performances inspired by the current hit film La La Land.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at the new Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Marietta, learning more about the classes offered at the studio…and learning a few smooth moves himself. Watch video here.
