Burgers with Buck: Buckhead BBQ

Of course, quality ingredients and great taste are some of the top priorities when creating a delicious burger worthy of being featured on #BurgersWIthBuck on Good Day Atlanta, but a clever name can also be beneficial.  Some opt to keep it simple with a name like ‘the Burger’, others can be more elaborate like last week’s ‘Sage Woodfire Tavern Double Cheeseburger’.  Either way, it comes down to taste, but a name does matter.

Think about if my parents had named me Steve. #BurgersWIthSteve?

Anyway, this week we feature ‘The Ugly Burger’ and ‘The Big Ugly Burger’ from Buckhead BBQ. Great names, huh?  Well, great burgers too.

The origin of the name is a funny story. Click on the link to hear owner Edward Kenimer explain, and contrary to public opinion, it actually had nothing to do with my co-worker Paul Milliken.  Any pub is good pub, right Paul?  However, there is nothing funny about the burgers themselves which are prepared on the XXL Big Green Egg.

The Ugly Burger is pretty basic.  It starts with a 6 oz. Braveheart Beef pattie, a mix of Pepper Jack and Cheddar cheeses, tomato and pickle.  It’s pretty basic.  The Big Ugly is two patties, with all the same ingredients, but wait, there’s more… it also includes bacon, onion rings, and sliced jalapenos on the side.  Both are great options, but certainly by now you know how #BWB rolls, so we had to try the Big Ugly.

Are you a Green Egg-er?  I am.  I’m also always looking for tips from other fellow BGE’ers, and I bet you are too. This week, you get a bonus for reading the story that accompanies #BWB.  I asked Kenimer to give us his best tip for cooking on the BGE, and here it is…

“Build your fire to one consistent temperature all the time and learn to cook around that. Don’t worry about fluctuating your temperatures with different things you’re cooking, if you can cook at one temperature for everything, that’s the best tip I can give you.”

Good advice.  And there’s nothing I like more than preparing the entire meal, including entrée and sides on the BGE, and not even turning on the oven in the house.  And now, I’m hungry.  Happy BGE’ing everybody, and let me know what you think of the Ugly and Big Ugly Burgers.
