Annual festival puts science under the microscope

From the clouds in the sky to the smartphone in your hand, science is everywhere.  And that’s especially true this month, as a series of events celebrating science and technology takes over the city.

The Atlanta Science Festival 2018 kicked off March 9 and continues through March 24, featuring several science-related events each day at various locations around Metro Atlanta.  The event was founded back in 2014 by Emory University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Metro Atlanta Chamber in an effort to expose people of all ages to the many aspects of science and technology that exist within the community.  Events include several stops by the Georgia State University Bio-Bus, a mobile science lab which takes science around the community, a presentation at Georgia Aquarium called “What The Trash?” which focuses on the impacts of trash and debris in the ocean, and Fernbank Forest Bird Walks led by an Atlanta Audubon Society volunteer.  The festival ends with a free Exploration Expo on Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Piedmont Park, which includes interactive exhibits, experiments, and performances.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken is always interested in learning more about science — he is a meteorologist, after all — and spent the morning on board the Georgia State University Bio-Bus.
