ATLANTA - For 50 years, Meals on Wheels Atlanta has provided food and other services to hundreds of Atlanta seniors. Nearly 115,000 meals are delivered each year. To keep the mission moving, they need help from volunteers and donors.
Inez Robinson is a senior who relies on Meals on Wheels Atlanta. They bring her more than just nourishment.
"They keep you laughing and we just have fun," said Robinson.
Robinson is one of the nearly 700 daily deliveries. Meals are customized to each senior's dietary restrictions.
Even though there are paid staff members, Meals on Wheels is driven by volunteers, who are especially needed this time of year.
"Most of the seniors are home bound and they don't really get a chance to go out and meet people, so they really cherish a visit from a volunteer," said Kari Morrison who directs volunteer services.
Meals on Wheels Atlanta also provides home repair services and manages seven neighborhood senior centers. They love having volunteers this time of year like students that are home for the holidays.
