It's a balancing act: Opening doors to people looking for hope and help, while ensuring those who worship at Church feel safe. Congregations across the Metro area gathered to learn how to try and keep sanctuaries secure.
"The church wants to be open, welcome, loving. But at the same time we need to be careful and cautious," explained Powder Springs Police Chief John Robison, who organized the event.
Representatives from 80 churches learned to identify vulnerabilities in their own buildings.
Safety suggestions included an "eyes and ears" volunteer security rotation to monitor any possible threats, along with surveillance systems and enhanced screenings for anyone working with children or money.
