Angels of Life: Group Helping Transplant Patients & Families

Angels of Life

- Lester Crowell and Lavaan Louis come from two different worlds...

Lester, for more than 40 years, was an owner of a hugely successful salon and spa. Lavaan was an active 10-year-old fifth grader.

The two share a common bond: both are transplant recipients.  When he was 13-years-old, Lester learned he had a genetic heart defect. Meanwhile, Lavaan was born with kidney failure.

Lester's heart defect resulted in a transplant fifteen years ago and a second transplant in 2010.While in the hospital, facing his own mortality, Crowell reflected on his grace and blessings and realized he wanted to do something to give back.

The Angels of Life fundraiser was born. Now in it's fifth year, the annual event has donated more than $160,000 to the Georgia Transplant Foundation.

Money from the fashion show and silent auction goes directly to help transplant recipients like Lavaan and his family, with things like paying rent and utilities.

It's a reminder to those families that they are not alone.

Lavaan, who received a new kidney just three months ago, has his energy and life back. He's able to do things like play sports and eat his favorite mac and cheese...things he couldn't do before the transplant. He's also found a new lifelong friend in Lester Crowell, who says Three-13 Salon is his first calling. His second: Angels of life.
