Police: Autistic teen crashes van into Phoenix home

- Police say an autistic teen took keys to a van while her family was asleep and crashed it into their home in Phoenix.

Phoenix police say the crash happened near 39th and Dunlap Avenues early Thursday morning when the 13-year-old took keys to the van, which belongs to her disabled father, while the family was asleep and crashed the van into the home and garage.

Police say no one was injured in the crash.

The 13-year-old reportedly has Autism. Her mother, Alcestra Brunell, said the 13-year-old wrote a note for her, saying she is "going to the store." Alcestra said her daughter has no memory of being behind the wheel.

The Red Cross is reportedly helping out the family, along with neighbors and the family's church.
