GBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Buford

- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting on Thursday morning in Buford, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Officials say the shooting involved a member of the Gwinnett County Police Department SWAT Team attempting to serve a high-risk arrest and search warrant.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Buford Dam Road.

According to authorities, multiple officers entered different areas of the home at the same time, and a female began shooting a gun at one of the SWAT officers.

A SWAT officer returned fire and struck the female twice, with one injury occurring in her torso, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The officer was not hit by gunfire but did sustain a minor injury to his arm.

The female was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with very serious injuries. Officials say there were eight people inside of the home at the time of the shooting.
