- Former WAGA anchor Chuck Moore died Friday night at his home in South Carolina.

Moore was 73.

Channel 5 viewers from the 70’s will know the name and face of Chuck Moore.

After beginning his career in Shreveport, La. and Kansas City, Chuck came to WAGA in 1972 as one of the station’s evening news anchors.

Long-time Atlantans might remember a popular promotional picture, showing Chuck with WAGA legends Jim Axel and Guy Sharpe along with sports director Thom Boyd in a pose similar to a famous picture of the Beatles.

After leaving WAGA in 1979, Chuck joined NBC affiliate WXIA where he anchored from 1980 to 1997.

His broadcasting career ended in North Georgia, where he came out of retirement in 1999 to anchor the evening news at the CBS affiliate in Toccoa.

After retiring for good in 2009, Chuck spent a lot of time on the golf course, which his family says was his joy.

Chuck died of a heart attack at his home in Chickasaw Point, South Carolina.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 48 years, Deborah, brother Greg Moore, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren Parker.
