ATLANTA - The Metro Atlanta Heart Walk celebrated more than 25 years as one of Atlanta’s largest community walk events and one of the American Heart Association’s top fundraisers in the country. This year's walk united thousands of people across Georgia in support of the fight against this country’s number one and four killers: heart disease and stroke.
The 2015 Metro Atlanta Heart Walk was held on September 26. The mild but rainy Saturday event hosted an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 attendees, out of more than 16,000 registered participants, who despite the weather walked the one-mile or 5K route through Centennial Olympic Park. Though participation was lower than expected due to Mother Nature, the event was an overall success, raising $2,565,385--more than $65,000 over goal!
In addition to raising money, the Metro Atlanta Heart Walk is also meant to raise awareness. It encourages people to become more physically active and employers to be catalysts for change in creating a healthier culture within the work environment. Several companies joined the event, including corporate sponsors Delta, Emory Healthcare, and UnitedHealthcare.
FOX 5 was also a corporate sponsor of the Heart Walk. Our own Russ Spencer, Lisa Rayam, Karen Graham, Deidra Dukes, Buck Lanford, Cody Chaffins, Claire Simms, David Chandley, Tom Haynes and Cynne Simpson all joined in the walk and festivities of the day. Walking wasn't enough for some of our talent, who after the race celebrated and danced in the rain!
