Weather Watcher Has Been Keeping Track of Georgia's Skies for 56 Years

- To say Willis Swint likes weather would be an understatement. The owner of Swint's Feed in Jonesboro is more than just a weather fan, he's a weather watcher and tracker for the National Weather Service. And he's been at his weather post for the last fifty six years.

In addition to watching the skies, Swint also enjoys watching the FOX 5 Storm team, especially Joanne Feldman and David Chandley. Friday Swint was honored by the National Weather Service with a prestigious national award for weather observing excellence and Chandley was there to present him with the award.

"This award is to show our appreciation to Mr. Swint. As only 5 observers out of over 10,000 across the United States can receive this distinction each year, not only is it a rare feat to win this award, but even more rare is the longevity that he has shown and dedication to his local community and his country by performing this duty daily," said George Wetzel of the National Weather Service. "Mr. Swint has not missed a day of observing since he started observing over 50 years ago."

After the ceremony Swint enjoyed talking 'shop' with David and showing him the amazing weather records he's kept for the last 56 years.

Some other fun facts about Willis Swint: He graduated from UGA in the 50's and he's been married to his wife for 65 years.
