A Freezing Rain Advisory was allowed to expire at midnight, but some areas of extreme northeast Georgia could see some slick spots and icy roads in isolated areas, especially in higher elevations. Overnight lows in those areas are expected to be below freezing, but that will rapidly change after sunrise.

The FOX 5 Storm Team said the storm fell in line with the “best case scenario” forecast which was given throughout the weekend.

Impacts from the winter weather appear to be less than first expected, with generally less than a tenth of an inch of freezing rain in the advisory area. Some icy spots could occur on roadways at the onset especially in far northeast Georgia, where surface temperatures will be just below freezing. The areas of some spots of ice for the morning commute will be roughly north of a line from Woodstock to Cumming to Winder with the greatest concern further northeast in areas surrounding Gainesville and Jefferson.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for a portion of central Georgia as the system made its way through the state. Upson, Lamar, and Crawford counties were under the warning for about 25 minutes starting at 9:20 p.m. The FOX 5 Storm Team noticed a bit of rotation in the system, but no reports of any funnel clouds The National Weather Service said the most damage was seen in Upson County with a few trees and power lines down.

Georgia Power said they were busy throughout the night responding to outages. As of midnight, less than 500 customers were without power.

The National Weather Service said the same system which moved through Georgia on Thursday also spun off tornadoes in Louisiana and the Florida panhandle.
