Lawyer: Court committee named to investigate judge

ATLANTA (AP) - A lawyer for an Alabama federal judge says a committee has been appointed to handle a court investigation of his client, who's accused of hitting his wife in an Atlanta hotel room.

Attorney Barry Ragsdale, who represents U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller, tells the Daily Report the five-person committee will be headed by 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Gerald Tjoflat.

Ragsdale declined to identify the other four but said they include two other circuit judges and two district judges. None of the committee members is from Alabama. One is a woman.

The committee is tasked with recommending disciplinary measures to the court's Judicial Council. The council can reprimand the judge or ask that he retire.

Fuller was arrested Aug. 10 after his wife called police.
