Boy, 8, donates hair for a good cause

When was the last time you had your hair cut? For one Douglas County boy, it has been five years since scissors have touched his hair.

It's not for style, but rather a commitment the 8-year-old and his family made a long time ago.

Every day Dana Jones says she has to brush and blow dry her son Draysin's hair, which is about 14-inches-long.

Five years ago, Draysin decided he wanted to donate his hair to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces for children without hair because of medical conditions. His older brothers were an inspiration.

"My oldest actually saw a pamphlet about children with cancer and heard about Locks of Love and so he started donating it and when he was born and found out about it he said he wanted to do the same thing," said Draysin's mother.

The boy's hair has grown almost to his waist and now, after five years of growing, it's finally time.

On Wednesday, he went for a haircut.

"I'm really proud of him," said Dana Jones.

The mother says to have children receive hair and feel better about themselves means a lot to their family.
