o Glazed pottery is the most popular and comes in array of colors
o Lightweight pottery is easier to move
o Refresh an existing pot
· Potting Soil
o Make sure to choose a nutrient-rich potting soil like Pike's Potting Soil Mix
o Fill the pot, leaving about an inch empty at the top

· Choosing Plants
o Thriller Plants
§ A tall and upright plant
§ Place in middle of the container if it will be viewed from all angles or at the back of the pot if it will only be viewed from one side
o Filler Plants
§ Medium size plants that "fill" in container garden
§ Place around the thriller plant
o Spiller Plants
§ Plants that trail over the side of the pot.
§ Gives the pot a softer, more cottage garden look.
§ Place at edge of container
· Tips to Make Your Container Garden Look Like It Was Done By a Professional
o Fill the container. Plant your flowers tightly together in the container so it is overflowing with foliage and flowers
o Moss around the edge of the container so you don't see the dirt
